We provide free and confidential services to currently enrolled students. Our services include:

• Workshops on various topics such as stress management, test taking and time management

• Alcohol and other drug treatment and education

• Limited psychiatric services with a referral from a UCC counselor

Interested in Talking to a Counselor?

meeting

The first step is to complete the UCC paperwork, which provides us with valuable information about you and your reasons for seeking counseling. After you finish the paperwork, we review it and schedule you for a counseling appointment. We make every effort to match you with a counselor whose expertise and counseling style are a good fit for you and your needs. Appointments are generally scheduled within two to seven days depending on your schedule and appointment availability. In the event of a crisis, either call or stop by the Counseling Center and you will be scheduled in the first available time slot (generally the same day). For after hours assistance, you can call the University Police Department (UPD) at 361-825-4444 or extension 4444 from any on-campus phone. UPD will contact the counselor on duty.

During your first counseling appointment, you and your counselor will discuss what service(s) will best meet your needs. If you require assistance that isn’t available through the UCC, your counselor will help you to access appropriate campus or community resources. Together you and your counselor will develop a plan for helping you with your concerns and will discuss what you can expect during this process.

At the University Counseling Center, we strive to create a welcoming and safe environment where students feel both supported and respected. Our staff is committed to providing quality services that are sensitive to students of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, abilities, religions and values. We’re here for you!

The Counseling Center is located in the Driftwood Building (next to the Health Center). Call 361-825-2703 for more information or visit our website at counseling.tamucc.edu to see a complete description of our services and upcoming events and to access a variety of helpful online resources.
